Dog Stairs for Bed: What to Look For
A missed jump onto the bed can turn a normal evening into a worried one. The right stairs give many dogs a steadier way up and down.
Start with bed height
Measure from the floor to the top of the mattress. If the stairs stop too low, your dog still has to make the final jump. Taller beds usually call for more steps or a gentler design.
Look closely at traction
Grip matters. Textured surfaces and non-skid bases help dogs feel more confident on wood, tile, and laminate floors.
Choose stability over decoration
A lighter set may be easy to move, but it should not wobble. Consider your dog’s weight, how often they climb, and whether they like to turn before getting on the bed.
Stairs or a ramp?
Stairs can suit dogs that still step comfortably and take up less floor space. A ramp may suit advanced joint pain, very short legs, or dogs that need a more gradual approach.
